This Remote Learning Thing

This week we were supposed to be heading to Florida for vacation, yet here we sit in Ohio with our suitcases in the closet EMPTY!😕 We're just here, hunkering down during this global pandemic. I get this is serious and people have lost their lives, but holy smokes it's time to get things moving again. It's been 8 weeks for me, I'm taking this time off work to just be mom and teach my boys, yet it seems like yesterday all at the same time! It's been crazy and I'm truly not sure what to believe anymore, but I'm choosing "Faith over Fear" and just embracing this time. I'm loving being home with my boys and learning so much about them with their school responsibilities. I don't get to see this side, so I'm soaking it all up!

Ethan has it down! I can honestly say, I haven't had to raise my voice at him, hound him, or even get him up to start his day. He's doing good and I'm so proud of him! Now, it's a lot and he does take a break midway, but he's got it figured out and that has helped me so much.  Colin, has needed more hands on and with Ethan able to do his own thing, I'm able to give Colin my full attention.  I can't even tell you what a blessing that has been! It's been fun watching Colin and learning more about him, since I don't get to see him in his normal school day setting.  Mrs. Jones has helped so much by keeping this mama in line with a weekly schedule. It keeps Colin on track and helps me not feel so overwhelmed. I never wanted to be a teacher, yet here I sit....lol!

Overall, things have been just fine here. Yes, this is different, but we are all embracing it and making the most out of this remote learning thing. Only 2 more weeks left and yes, we're counting down to summer break!💛

Colin's Special Day

Birthday's are a pretty big deal in this house, regardless, if a global pandemic was happening around us a celebration still needed to happen! We would have to do everything here at home, since pretty much everything Colin likes to do is closed, but making his special day fun was still of high importance. Colin turned 11 last week and it was his turn to have the red carpet rolled out for his day.

From the moment he woke up, he knew it was his birthday and that is always a moment that makes me smile. He knew the minute he opened his bedroom door it was his birthday. I started this years ago, especially for Colin, but Ethan gets it too. I did it, because Colin didn't have the words to express and I wasnt sure if he understood that it was his birthday?! So, that's where this tradition transpired. Now, all these years later, he still gets so excited. Colin, can now use his words and he understands "Happy Birthday" 100%, but I still continue because it warms my heart to see my boys so happy on their special day....

We weren't going to be able to do anything outside of the house, due to COVID-19, but the awesome thing Colin is simple and loves things just to be simple, so our celebration this year was going to be just that....a "simple" birthday celebration here at home. However, it needed to include balloons, his special cake, streamers, and chicken nuggets! Colin LOVES balloons and he loves to let them go outside, so that's what we do.😊

Every year, especially with Colin, I reminisce on his growth and how far he's come. This kid has and is, so fun to watch grow up. He's amazing! I love watching him and birthdays are a huge growth, because now we can sing the birthday song, he opens his gifts, and he loves to tell everyone "Happy Birthday" so he gets it and that just warms my heart...
