Colin's 10

I like to think that birthdays are a fun time and we celebrate to the fullest at our house! I absolutely love celebrating and making sure my guys feel special on their birthday! It was Colin's turn this past weekend to get the red carpet rolled out for him and he loved every minute of it.  From the minute he opened his bedroom door, he knew his day had arrived.

I heard him when he woke up and that's when I sighed a huge sigh of relief, because he knew and his excitement spoke volumes.  He started singing Happy Birthday to himself and for him, that's what he relates birthdays to are the decorations and the birthday song.  It was cute, because a few months ago, we were at McDonald's and they had wind streamer thingies hanging from their ceiling and he instantly starting sing, "Happy Birthday to you" and that's when I knew that he related the decorations to birthdays, from the decorating that I do.  It melted my heart and I was so excited right along with him that day, because that's when I knew with 100% certainty that he knew, too.

Anyway, birthdays for Colin are different, yet still fun.  He's never been a party kid, even though, we tried for the first 5 years of his life to have them for him. It was never a fun thing back then and once we realized it was causing more stress, we stopped and began doing things more simple with less commotion. I took Colin to see my parents on Saturday, while Brenton took Ethan & Caden to see the Avengers-End Game movie in Cambridge. Colin had a fun time playing with his cousin and my brother, while I enjoyed coffee with my parents.  Colin has really enjoyed his birthday the older he gets and because of the simplicity, we all get to relax and enjoy it with him.  He even started opening his own gifts, so my parents enjoyed watching him. It was a fun evening for us and from what I heard the movie was pretty fantastic, too.

Colin is a water child, so it was no surprise when he chose to go "schwimming" for his birthday. Last year, we took him to Salt Fork to enjoy their indoor pool, so we made plans to take him back this year for the afternoon.  For Colin's sake, we always try to spread things out and found it helps him enjoy each moment of his birthday that much more, so we started early with gifts, cake, and then headed out shortly after church.  We really had a fun day with him!  It truly is an eye-opener with each birthday, but this year with him turning 10, we really had fun reminiscing on just how far this journey has brought us and how much he's grown.  This journey has really been a life-changer for all of us, but when you can sit back and watch your child enjoy his birthday, without any stress, it makes his smile that much more special & the BEST thing ever...I swear it!☺

Happy 10th Birthday, Colin!  We love you so very much and hope you had as much fun on your birthday, as we did watching you! ♥
